The Storm on Wheels

“When one is in school, many things capture a boy’s imagination. One of the common ones is motorbikes and they did capture mine. The below words are a boys appreciation of the creativity of the designers bringing a flurry of bikes into the Indian market, knowing well that when it was first seen in the western lands in the hands of enthusiastic youth, it wasn’t taken very well by the society of that age. But today its the chariot of the youth of a young developing nation.”

Gone are those centuries, gone are those days.
The visions seem so haze,
Of the days of glory and culture,
When the people did care and nurture
The feeling of oneness and unity
Their symbol, their identity.
The society was a family in its own,
Antisocial elements were thrown,
Out of their heavens, out of the city,
As the families preserved their dignity.
It used to be a school, a workhouse.
Is flames have now been doused.

Now it has changed a lot,
Like a scutcheon marred by a blot.
Our conduct and attitude so crude,
Jealousy and greed making us to be rude.
It cannot improve if we just sit and brood.
For rage and anger covers it with its black hood.
It’s this modern war working like a mole,
A howling blitzkrieg in the souls,
Of youngsters not so mature,
By its glittering gleam it lures
Them into a trap of show and style
Costing a huge sum not worthwhile,
As new models are introduced every year,
Driving full speed in the fifth gear.

It all started with Harley Davidson,
During the second world war, it stunned
The whole world by its power and style
And as it could go inspired mile by mile.
Then came the Royal Enfield,
By a 350cc engine it’s guild.
Java and Yezdi, Yamaha joined the flock.
While Rajdoot gave us a gleaming shock.
These big names didn’t give a chance to others,
Till the early nineties, when of late,
Rookies like Hero Honda, Kawasaki Bajaj came in spate.
Suzuki with its gleaming models in the showcase.
Other brands also joined the wild chase,
Shogun, Max, CD and RX series loaded the periphery.
Bringing a revolution in the Indian motorbike industry,
With reigns of technology and power it changed history.

Cometh the age of new millennium bike,
The flight of imagination is on a premium hike.
With the rise of Hero Honda limited,
From Sleek, CD hundred,
Splendor, Passion and CBZ,
Their range is vast and unlimited.
The powerful Ambition was their last entry,
Blazing the trail with the Karizma gentry.
It’s red violence making every head turn,
Worth deep desire and envy their hearts did burn.
Kawasaki then brought the Unshakeable Caliber,
Kinetic jumped with GF, Boss and Challenger.
Kawasaki’s cruiser style with deadly Eliminator,
Kinetic and Yamaha were not far behind
With dashing Aquila and classy Enticer.
Enfield improves itself by raising its look,
Now it’s hard to escape the Machismo’s hook.
Lightning and Thunderbird
Have the unbeatable style.
Their shimmering body,
Can be recognized by miles.
The Pulsar is a sensation,
It looks like an ethereal creation.
Yamaha expects a lot from Libero,
Waiting in the wings of ‘F2’ Fiero.
It’s a war of machines nowadays,
Watch Out! The road is wild ablaze.
Harley Davidsons are a thing of the past,
Aquila and Karizma give the  futuristic blast.

With a full throttle of 26 brake horsepower,
Their advanced versions are in the designer’s bower.
Watch out for them as they zoom,
They will pass by soon with a sonic boom.
